Eustoma

Description and history of eustoma flower

One of the brightest representatives of the plant world! And as the brightest, it is even taken literally, precisely because of its incredibly bright colors! Similar in appearance to roses, but without thorns, customers have several names: Lisianthus, Chinese, Irish or French roses, Texas bell, etc.

The small and delicate flower looks very much like unopened rose buds, with the flowers reaching a maximum diameter of 5 cm. Lisianthus flowers can be single-colored or two-colored, and their texture is smooth and velvety soft. In appearance, the petals are thin and delicate like silk and have an oval shape. The stem of the Eustoma is elegant and thin, yet it supports many flowers on it.

History of the FLower

The history of Lisianthus is very old and dates back to the 19th century. Eustoma is native to the southern part of North America, and in 1806 the English botanist Richard Anthony Salisbury was the first to study this plant, classifying it and giving it a name. Despite great achievements in the cultivation of the plant, it reached Japanese gardens only in the 20th century, in the early 1930s. From that moment on, it spread all over the world and was especially loved in many states of America, Mexico, and New Zealand.

In the botanical description, the Lisianthus flower is characterized as a perennial shrub and belongs to the family Gentianáceae /obsolete name of the genus - Lisianthus/. Translated from Greek, "Eustoma" means "beautiful mouth" or, in another interpretation, "beautiful speaking". Well, no doubt it is! Eustomas are extremely ethereal flowers, but also the name means "bitter flower" in Latin. This phrase is also quite appropriate since the flower contains various substances that were once used for medicinal purposes and which give the taste of bitterness.

Symbolism of Eustoma

The most common association when giving Lisianthus flowers is gratitude. It's the floral equivalent of saying "I appreciate you!" because the flower itself needs specific conditions when they are planted, but then it grows as a healthy plant that blooms profusely and its devoted attention is returned tenfold.

Although it is a relatively modern plant in floristry, the Lisianthus actually represents traditional values as well. Another positive meaning of Eustoma is the union between two people. According to many old stories and myths, it is associated with those who respect old-fashioned morality. In addition, it means eternal love and devotion, so it is an excellent addition to any romantic wedding celebration. It's no surprise that this flower variety is taking the wedding industry by storm. Besides being strikingly beautiful, the flower means that two people have made the decision to spend their lives together! And who wouldn't want this stylish flower to be a hallmark on the big day?!

One of the interesting facts about the plant is its connection with astrology and more precisely with those born under the sign of Sagittarius. Independent, strong, adventurous, and highly imaginative - these are some of the traits that bear the zodiac sign, and the elegant Eustoma means all the characteristics of the sun sign, so the plant would be an ideal gift for a friend or lover born at this time of the year.
