Eustoma is native to the southern part of North America, and in 1806 the English botanist Richard Anthony Salisbury was the first to study this plant, classifying it and giving it a name. Despite great achievements in the cultivation of the plant, it reached Japanese gardens only in the 20th century, in the early 1930s. From that moment on, it spread all over the world and was especially loved in many states of America, Mexico, and New Zealand.

In the botanical description, the Lisianthus flower is characterized as a perennial shrub and belongs to the family Gentianáceae /obsolete name of the genus - Lisianthus/. Translated from Greek, "Eustoma" means "beautiful mouth" or, in another interpretation, "beautiful speaking". Well, no doubt it is! Eustomas are extremely ethereal flowers, but also the name means "bitter flower" in Latin. This phrase is also quite appropriate since the flower contains various substances that were once used for medicinal purposes and which give the taste of bitterness.
